There are a few “Antique Stores” in Roanoke VA and many of them are set-up with vendors that rent a Booth (Space) to sell their items and in turn pay a monthly rental fee and/plus a percentage of all sales to the “Antique Stores” owner. If a vendor does not perform well it is usually a policy of most antique shops of this type to “kick them out’ because they do not make the store any money and have antique items that people do not like. I like vendor style antique shops because you get an eclectic mix of merchandise to browse.
In Roanoke VA there are a couple notable Vendor style antique shops like Charlotte’s Web Antique Mall, Roanoke Antique Mall, Onyx Antiques, Dixie Cavern Antiques, and a few others. Some of the places I did not mention are a little to crafts and primitive for my taste. The shabby sheik, crafts, ad modern made primitives are not antiques and should not be in a real antique store unless Vintage or Antique material was used in the creation or restoration (My Opinion). You will find reproduction Items in antique malls and many times you may not know the difference, the price should be a clue. $20 porcelain gas or oil sign is not authentic usually.
There are a few Antique and Vintage Boutiques in the Area like The Vintage Vault (Lots of records and other items), Bob Anderson (Not real “in demand” antiques but lots of lamps and decor). I like a catch all antique shop with piles of stuff to dig through and that get all sorts of stuff in Week and this is the Kind of Antique Store Vintage Cargo is (When we are open to the public). We are by appointment now because our business model is on a larger scale now. We will have a revolving door antique store open with regular hours again soon. We are big buyers – we buy anytime!
