There are a few estate sales services in the Roanoke VA Area and they typically all work the same way… You call them – They come and look at what you have and talk you in to using their service and they claim to be able to get you the most money for your items and to have a large buyer base. The fact is buyers follow the “estates and items” not the estate sale company. When they see a sale advertised and it has a good selection of stuff they go. When they DO NOT GO is hen they know it is being managed by someone they do not like or someone that OVERPRICES items.
These traditional estate sales services use the same business model as they all have for the past several decades. Here is what they do: They price your items using outdated pricing methods and old trends. They charge you 20-40% plus advertising fees (usually $300-$400). A deposit may be required. They also may charge you by the hour for their helpers! Estate Sales Services typically have a 3 day sale on Friday – Sat – Sun and offer 25% off on Sat. and 50% off on Sunday in the hopes this will unload all the items possible. At the end of the sale they sell or give away or remove the leftovers for you. You will have dozens of people show up and park around your home on the first day and second day and some lighter traffic on Sunday – This method works ok. But times are changing and the right way to liquidate and estate is to have an Estate Liquidation Expert sell your items using all available avenues and to consider all options and methods.
